Vintage pieces have been swarming the minds of designers for a while now. Hedi Slimane brought that grungy past to Saint Laurent a few years back, and now Dennis Basso is elevating the wide, fur-collared statement coat. Below I have highlighted two vintage trends which have been dominating the AW16 runway.
From the hallowed runway of Roksanda to the intimate studio of Victoria Beckham the statement collar has been everywhere. Reading up on Vogue about Erdem’s London show and reading about the into-the-past theme that seems to be around the collections lately, it makes sense. The collar was a pivotal part of the transition form sweet sixities swing dresses to daring blazers and blouses of the seventies. Vintage is in and the collar is most certainly back.
Despite the autumn/winter collections inevitably displaying warmer, thicker fabrics, fur collars and details have been every designer’s touch this season. From J Mendel’s vibrant coat collar to Proenza Schouler’s woolen accented jackets, fur is everywhere, faux or not. Shearling and suede are just a few of the materials being used to flashback to the past. The days of Elizabeth Taylor and all such icons are being brought to now. And now is the time to get fur into your collection.
